I have been a French Language teacher with over 16 years of teaching experience under my belt. During this time, I have been associated with various prestigious institutions, including TNS Beaconhouse and BCP PECHS, Karachi. I have taught at all levels and have experience in teaching a myriad of curricula, including the International Baccalaureate (MYP/DP), American system, CAIE, and Project-Based Learning(PBL) as well. By gaining this exposure I was able to implement and disseminate the teaching of French as a foreign language using 21st century approaches to teaching and learning. Through my training by Harvard University (Making Thinking Visible), I was invigorated by the different routines that I could implement in class to enhance the language learning skills and the cultural aspect in students.
As a language teacher, exposing kids to contemporary cultural resources helped them improve their communication and comprehension skills such as movies, comics, online resources, audio clippings etc. It was our key goal to measure and document the student progress that reflected their learning process and outcomes. With a variety of students with different level of language, differentiated learning was ensured in class that facilitated students in learning at their own pace. Outside of class, as a teacher and a team player, I have been actively involved in extracurricular activities including MUN (Advisor/Director) and helped students represent their school and their country in different schools outside Pakistan. It was essential to find ways in which French could be inculcated outside classroom so during the year different cultural events such as Francophonie Day and school plays, which ensured student involvement and participation outside the curriculum.
I have also been affiliated with the Alliance Française for almost 7 years and have had the
honour to be selected for several trainings in France by the French Embassy. I am also an IB Certified Teacher and have been a DELF Examiner. These various experiences have offered me enormous scope to build on and apply many of the research findings that I came across during my trainings. I have been passionate about French language and culture, and have taken every opportunity to extend my knowledge and expertise through various local and international trainings. Teaching a foreign language is always a challenging job and I cherish the moment when my students come to appreciate the importance and benefits of being bilingual. I feel encouraged and motivated when my students start to enjoy this challenging process and see my sincere efforts being paid off.
