My mission is not only to teach my students a language that they feel they should know because it’s important. It is more about developing an approach that nurtures their interests and make them love the language. Of course, I would base my teaching steps on a specific book, teaching my students the fundamentals and essentials, but I would do that in a creative way, adapting each method to the interests of my student. But why would I do that ? The answer is simple. All our lives throughout school or university, we stick to a book and only that book. When in reality, we forget that most students , especially children, are sometimes more attracted to a certain subject, only because the teacher’s methods, or simply because it involves a subject that interests them. So Pure, simple languages lessons can seem hard, but once we introduce the language into a topic or activity that the student likes, he will become eager to learn more and more. He will enjoy it and won’t feel that he’s learning as a duty, but he will develop à passion. That is my mission. I strongly believe we learn best when we don’t feel that we’re just learning. When we’re entertained and excited. It’s like reading a book we’re passionate about. If it involves culture or science, we will absorb more information than any culture or science course we’re memorizing at school. Therefore, I would develop a personalized approach for every student, based on his likings : the topics he’s passionate about, the activities he enjoys. I would focus on enriching the visual memory, as well as the auditory memory, because together they form a reinforced strong memory. I would use students’ passions as an atout that helps me enhance their learning. For example, there are cartoons specially created for children, as they have learning objectives. Word games for grammar and vocabulary such as simple scrabble, movies and short videos about any topic, adapted to the age of the student (we have nat geo kids for children that includes cultural topics and interesting facts). I would include picture books, and story-time for speaking. As well as learning apps. Why not use the technology to our advantage ? It can be good, it’s full of rich methods that can deepen one’s knowledge. Finally, I want to thank everyone reading this statement, and considering me to be their or their child’s tutor.
