CELTA-qualified native speaker teacher from Great Britain with over 20 years of experience

Since obtaining my CELTA certificate in London, I have been working as a teacher of English for over 25 years in various countries, both face-to-face and online. I have extensive experience teaching preparation courses for IELTS, TOEFL and the Cambridge examinations (FCE, CAE, CPE), and I keep abreast of the developments and changes made to those testing systems over time. I also have considerable experience teaching English for business, finance, banking, presentations, human resources, sales, marketing, hospitality and medicine, and I previously worked as both a teacher trainer and methodologist. Additionally, I work as a freelance translator and editor: translating texts from Russian to English, and proofreading articles and academic papers for numerous clients.

I see teaching as a two-way process, and enjoy learning from my students as much as imparting knowledge to them. I am results-oriented, and derive pleasure from being able to help others achieve their dreams and ambitions. I also believe that studying should above all be an enjoyable process, so having fun is most important in my lessons.

From my experience, I have learned that students are typically afraid of making mistakes, and this prevents them from speaking fluently. In fact, the only way we can really learn is through understanding our mistakes and being shown how to correct them. As such, I have found that it is important to create a trustful atmosphere where students feel comfortable and able to take risks with language, helping them to gain confidence and improve their speaking skills in order to get successful results.
